The iPoint Explorer (iPE) is an interactive gesture
recognition system for public places e.g. central
train stations or airports. It enables users to virtually
explore popular areas by just pointing at a
large screen. The iPE - with its novel and easy to
learn, contact-free gesture interaction - supports
the users' orientation in unknown environments. The
system provides multimedia content like geographical data, photorealistic 3D models, videos and
pictures of interesting sights and tours. The user is
able to get directions to close-by points of interest
as well as current information about public transport. Furthermore users are able to arrange the presented information to a personal digital
guide. It is also intended to enable a wireless transfer
of this personal digital guide to the user's
mobile device like PDA or mobile phone.
- Contact-free interaction: no input devices needed
- Ambient intelligence: e.g. recognition of interested
users or deictic gestures
- Easy to use: no computer experience needed
- Vandalism proof: no direct user-system contact
- Multimedia contents: 3D-models, audio, video, text,
images, geo-data
- Travel assistance: Travel information about the
surrounding area
- Personal digital travel guide: information to go
- Potential for location based services
- Fields of Application
- The iPoint Explorer technology is particularly
suitable for usage scenarios where no contact
between the user and the system is possible or
intended. Furthermore the iPoint Explorer allows an
intuitive interaction, especially with big screens.
- iPoint Explorer users are able to see the whole
picture and to interact with the system at the same
time, which is a huge advantage comparing to touch
screens
