Political activist and struggle icon Robert Sobukwe was a longtime prisoner on Robben Island under the South African Apartheid regime. The Marabaraba touch screen chronicles Sobukwe’s life and hardships through an interactive video gallery, in which users will discover a remarkable collection of interviews, witness statements and other cultural artefacts of the era. The application also teaches users how to play Marabaraba, a game that often provided diversion for Sobukwe and his fellow Robben Island inmates. Close by, visitors can discover the “Human Rights Garden,” an interactive garden featuring a number of prominent stones. Each stone, when touched, reveals information about basic human rights. As more human rights are discovered by the visitor, the bleak stones are gradually replaced with blooming flowers.
